ARCHERY
A friendly target archery club, founded at GCHQ in 1948, welcoming beginners and experienced archers.
About the club
Black and Gold Archers are a friendly, social target archery club, keen to help anyone who wants to learn and develop their archery. Most members shoot recurve, with growing numbers of compound and longbow archers.
The club was founded at GCHQ in 1948 as the Civil Service Gun and Archery Club. Its name comes from the centre of both targets: black from the rifle target and gold from the archery target. The gun club later folded, and the archery club became the Black and Gold Archery Club.
The club shoots on our field in spring and summer, hosts the Civil Service Archery Association’s annual South West Regional Tournament here, and runs its own tournaments on the field each May and July.
When and where they play
Spring and summer: on our field on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6.30pm, and Friday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm.
Autumn and winter: indoors at Deans Close School Gym Hall on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.
